ÄI x NMA 2021
“DRAW ME A SHEEP” – a New Media Art exhibition with interactive components was a project conceived through a one-year incubation period, involving dialogues and consultations with the likes of AI Singapore (AISG) , and HAKONO.
This endeavour was realised through the generous funding, support and belief in the paradigm of ‘Research through Practice’ by Collaborative Lab initiative, of the Interdisciplinary Studies & Academic Enhancement, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).
Led by Joey.Spl, an alumnus and former lecturer of NAFA, with four young creative individuals from a different cohort of CDE, New Media Art module and NAFA’s Design and Media Programme, namely – Lapassorn Charoenying (Pat), currently undertaking her BA at NAFA, Sanaya C., graduate of NAFA Diploma 2021 cohort, Zoya Bose, and Xue Tong, both undertaking their final semester with NAFA this year.

What Do They Dream Of?
Sleep so sound, dreams so profound
2021
Dreams are such profound and perplexing experiences unique to everyone. A succession of images, ideas, emotions and sensations that occur during our slumber.
What if we could give this ability to an AI? What would a machine fabricate? Is there a way for us to predict dreams? A way to understand how a dream works?
What Do They Dream Of? Is an AI simulation of how dreams are created. Using pattern recognition on various depictions of dreams in artworks, ranging from centuries ago to now this simulation showcases how potentially an AI could learn to dream.
Exhibition Day
Production
This was a year-long project done with the help of my ex-lecturer and friends, therefore the amount of research for this project is quite huge to showcase. The images and videos below are a sum-up of the entire process, research and production that went into creating What Do They Dream Of?
Process

Using a code (picture on the right) I was able to edit in a psychedelic filter to aid with prototyping the visual effect of the images morphing into each other. An external website was used in the code to edit the images.
Click the link below to try the filter.
The image on the left is a compilation of the initial mindmap study on how I conceptualised my project as well as the initial research and concept art.
This is followed by the final piece prototype that I ultimately created.

Video Production
This was the final edited video prototype projected for my exhibition. The music is Milk and Honey by Arcade Fire.
Below are some of the behind-the-scenes of creating the video with the help of a very good friend of mine.
